Ann L. Decker lives by her motto, “Don’t Postpone Joy.” Whether it be the joy of traveling, the joy of spending time with family, or the joy of giving, she says “why wait?”
“Give from your heart,” said Decker. “Giving isn’t about the amount, but about supporting a cause you believe in.” And, she believes in Treasure Coast Hospice.
As a member of the Treasure Coast Hospice Board of Directors, Decker feels she has an obligation to give, but her reasons for giving go way beyond that.
Not only has she known numerous families who have benefited from the services offered by hospice, she watched her sister care for patients as a hospice nurse for 18 years. “I know the difference she has made in the lives of so many families,” Decker said. “One of the blessings of hospice is that they help make a loved one’s passing beautiful. They give families time to say goodbye.”
“Knowing the assistance and guidance the caregivers provide to the patient, and just as importantly, to the family gives me great satisfaction. I have seen how Treasure Coast Hospice makes a concerted effort to extend care, comfort and compassion to both the patient and the family and it is amazing.”
There are many worthy causes you can choose to support. As a retired fundraising professional, Decker’s advice is to “choose who you give to based on your passion for their mission and the integrity of the organization.” Get involved and see firsthand the impact they have on those they serve.
When asked what prompted her to remember Treasure Coast Hospice in her estate plan, Decker responded, “I should have done it earlier as I believe that strongly in the mission.”
“If my gift makes the difference in the life of one child, one young person, one adult, or any member of the families served by Treasure Coast Hospice, I will be eternally grateful,” she said.
