What began as a $20 donation in 2002 has grown into more than a decade of passion-driven giving of time, talent and treasure by Martin County resident Teri Dolecki.
Teri began supporting Little Treasures, Treasure Coast Hospice’s (TCH) Pediatric Care Program, as an event attendee in 2014 – the same year the program began. Since then, Teri’s love for the organization and the children served through Little Treasures has resulted in her becoming an active member of the Rose Ball planning committee for the program’s annual fundraiser.
She has devoted her time and talent to creating the incredible themed centerpieces that adorn the tables, as well as the general décor. Although Teri has financially supported the event since its inception, for the past two years she has stepped up as the presenting sponsor for the event and plans to continue.
This year’s donation was made in memory of Teri’s mother who she cared for during the past 17 years and who was cared for by TCH before passing away in August of 2023.
“I love the whole care experience at Treasure Coast Hospice,” said Teri, “but what they do for those kids is amazing and I want to make sure it continues after I’m gone.”
Putting her words into action, Teri became a Legacy Circle member in 2023, making the commitment to include TCH in her estate plan. Of course, she chose Little Treasures as the designated beneficiary.
“I never had kids, but children have always held a special place in my heart,” shared Teri. “I am a caregiver by nature. I cared for my husband who suffered from MS for 11 years and then for my mom. This commitment allows me to care for the children served by Treasure Coast Hospice.”
Teri’s desire to make an impact on the lives of children doesn’t stop with Little Treasures. When she learned of a need to renovate the existing children’s grief support room at TCH’s Stuart campus, she felt compelled to step up again, committing to a significant gift. The refurbished room, to be named “Teri’s Place,” will be more welcoming and provide more efficiently designed space for the children and teens who are receiving support after experiencing a loss.
“I just want my money to make a difference in the lives of children,” said Teri. “And I chose to support this project while living so I am able to see the direct impact of my giving.”
Teri’s advice to those contemplating how they want to support TCH: “Find a program you are passionate about. Volunteer your time. Use your talents. Support financially if you can. Give some now. Give some later. I did it because I love this place and it’s a good organization to be connected to.”
